Engineering Design & Management
Engineering Design and Management is the favourite set of core subjects for students that undertake electrical, computer andtelecommunications engineering. The subjects that our students undertake teach them to be capable managers with the skills to work in teams, manage projects, design, finance, market, build and sell. The subject prepares our students with practical skills that are used in the workforce and are used extensively to promote themselves when undertaking job interviews.
Management has been heavily taught within the degrees due tothe fact that the majority of engineers become managers, and most become managers within five years of completing their degree. The advantage of having electrical/computer/telecommunications engineers as managers is their ability tosolve problems, identify problems and solutions and use technology.
The advancement of technology is the major way companiesincrease productivity and become more competitive. Our engineers learn theability to quickly adapt and seek out new technologies, and the skills taught make implementation very easy. As managers ourelectrical/computer/telecommunications engineers gain other strengths that are becoming increasingly important in companies. One of these strengths isdisaster recovery where our graduates gain the understanding of knowing what technology is needed in an event of a disaster. A disaster can include suchevents as the loss of power, or the loss of the companies data.
The finance skills give our graduates the ability to understand budgets. Understanding how to control money is an important skill when managing a project or company. Marketing skills teach our graduates how to communicate with others and how to sell themselves. Companies desperately seekindividuals with both knowledge and communications skills. Design skills teachour graduates how to plan, research and develop any task that they set their mind too.
