"Graduate Electrical Power Engineer of the Year (2006)" |

| I joined RailCorp in 2002 and worked through several rotations on the Graduate Program before being appointed to a permanent position as a Senior Design Engineer in the Power Systems group of the Electrical Design office. My work there predominantly involves Network Planning and Traction System modelling. Modelling of the network becomes particularly interesting as, unlike most energy supply networks, our loads are mobile!
In 2006, primarily in recognition of my work on the Traction Supply Upgrade project, I was named as the Graduate Electrical Power Engineer of the Year by Engineers Australia. Part of the prize for this award was a trip to Europe to attend the Nuremburg SPS/IPC/Drives fair along with visits to a number of major international electrical equipment manufacturers. My experiences on this trip, along with what I have seen working in cooperation with other Engineers in Australia and overseas, is that the standard of Electrical Engineering at UOW is well and truly world-class and therefore would highly recommend studying there. |

How easy it was to get a graduate position after completing my degree |
|
|
| I joined RailCorp in 2003 on the graduate program. I moved off the graduate program and have moved into a senior test engineer position. My work involves testing and implementing advanced signalling technology throughout the NSW rail system. That is I work on controlling the signals that control the movement of the trains. The work I do is really interesting and I am not always stuck in my office all day.
Since joining the workforce I have consistently found that the staff, facilities and curriculum at UOW are very highly regarded throughout the industry. The learning environment was excellent and out in the workforce the pay is impressive. |
